Trotwood Business Spotlight - Gill Mart & Co

For 28 years, the Gill family has made Trotwood the home for their family business. At 2539 Shiloh Springs Road, you will find Gill Mart & Co and Melody Gill, one of the city of Trotwood's BEST cheerleaders. Melody remembers fondly her days as a child, coming into the store her parents opened in Trotwood. Her dad is a real estate developer and her mom began her career as a teacher, but retail is the heart of this family.

"At 11 years old, I loved coming into the store and playing with the jewelry and arranging the fashion," said Melody Gill. She graduated from both Trotwood Madison High School and the University of Dayton. She earned a degree in business administration, but she always knew she was going to join the family business and that she did. With her parents pretty much retired, Melody has managed the business for the past 10 years.

Gill Mart & Co is a special occasion fashion boutique where one can find the perfect outfit for almost any event imaginable. But the thing that makes Gill Mart extra special is how they support the community. Each year, Gill Mart provides clothing for 25 fashion shows, supporting churches and nonprofits - never charging any organization a dime.

The Gill family has successfully built a business of customer loyalty, something Melody says keeps her in business. Today, she is fighting to develop new business with what Melody calls the retail shift in Trotwood, but that doesn't stop her from remaining focused and determined.

"I love what I do, that's why I continue, that's why my family continues and I'm going to make this business grow, no matter what it takes, even if it kills me. We have wonderful customers who have become a part of the Gill family, so I'm not going anywhere!"
